Description

The Rapido Trains UK Manning Wardle L Class Hawthorn what-if is a landmark OO gauge model — the first ever appearance of this iconic industrial locomotive in 4mm scale from any manufacturer. Works No. 1476 of 1900, this model represents the locomotive in lined blue SECR style what-if livery condition.

The Manning Wardle L Class was a firm favourite with civil engineering contractors and light railway operators throughout the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. Dainty, characterful and unmistakably Manning Wardle in appearance, the L Class featured a larger boiler diameter and longer cylinder stroke than earlier types, giving it a greater tractive effort while retaining the compact proportions that made it so versatile and widely used across Britain’s industrial network.

Rapido’s model faithfully captures the wide variety of detail differences that existed between individual locomotives. This example features a full cab, curve-ended frames, single boss wheels and tapered buffer stocks. Separately fitted parts include cab steps, smokebox doors, valves, tanks and backhead details throughout.

Optional personalisation parts including vacuum pipes, coupling chains and dumb buffers are also available.

This DCC Ready version features an ESU E24 decoder socket and factory-fitted speaker. It runs out of the box on a conventional DC or DCC layout, and the E24 socket makes fitting a sound decoder a straightforward upgrade whenever you choose.
